I have been getting so many comments lately about the recipe for homemade laundry soap…I tried to film myself making it yesterday, but my computer shut down during filming. Here is the first few minutes of it…and to recap the recipe:
Shred 1 bar Fels Naptha in food processor (if you’re lucky enough to have one) or shred it with a cheese grater, or use a KitchenAid attachement if you have one. Blend 1/2 cup Borax and 1/2 cup Arm and Hammer Washing soda. I use a blender to mix all 3 ingredients to make a smooth mix. Then I store it in a glass jar. I have a HE washing machine and use about 1 TBSP of the mixture per load. If you have a Top Loader, use a few Tablespoons.
It should cost you about 3 cents a load.
Can you really use this in a front loading HE machine? Do you put it directly into the machine or in the little pull out thingy where the fabric softener goes?
I put it in the little pullout thingy next to the place where the fabric softener goes. In mine, I have a slot for both. Does that help?
Where do you get the ingrediants? I have never heard of Arm and Hammer Washing Soda and the other ingredients.
Could you please tell me the mixing ratio for the ingredients? How much should you use per regular wash load? Thank you!

Here is an article I wrote on the homemade laundry soap. I have been using it for 2 years now and I love it! I also make dishwasher detergent and household cleaner- so much cheaper!!
Geesh whats next…homemade granola and cloth diapers??! I’m telling you THOSE people are just over the top. (Wink wink).
Have a good week.
You are too adorable, for one thing. Other than that- you crack me up, BUT your tips are great, for sure. And I couldn’t help thinking “I wonder if Ceci is going to shred cheese after she shreds the Naphta bars and I wonder, just out of a bit of a curious mind, if the cheese is going to bubble just a bit on the tip of the tongue-
I really wish we could have seen the making of this stuff in its entirity- love the kitchenaid- yellow.

I mean entirety- spelled it wrong- I hate that. Sorry.
I love this soap! My family has skin allergies and I normally have to buy fragrance free…but this stuff smells good and doesn’t bother anyone’s skin! Yeah! Thank you for the tip!
P.S. Word to self, don’t grate your thumb too!
